Who We Are and
What We Believe ...

As Christians:

We believe that Jesus Christ is "the way, the truth, and the life." Through Jesus, we discover what God is really like - a loving God, full of compassion, forgiveness, and grace.

We center our lives around the commandments to love God with heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love one's neighbor as one's own self.

We are committed to Jesus' instructions to make disciples and to demonstrate God's love through word and deed.

As United Methodists:

We emphasize the primacy of God's grace in the life of salvation. We affirm the sacred dignity of each and every human being. We believe that faith must be put into action.

We look to scripture, tradition, experience, and reason as guidelines for our faith, and we understand the Bible to be the primary source and foundation of Christian witness.

As Members of the
First United Methodist Church :

We believe that through the gift and power of God's unconditional love, we can discover a way of life that is both meaningful and abundant.

We seek to grow in our love for God and in our love for others. We bear one another's burdens and share in each other's joys.

We are committed to being the Body of Christ in our community. We believe that Jesus is depending upon us to be messengers of hope and love in the places we live, work, and play.

Our vision and call is to create "an Oasis of God's Grace" in the heart of Marion, Illinois.
